Philosophy

Corryville Catholic School is an urban school in the midst of a diverse community in which many needs are evident. Our students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and environments which influence their general knowledge and social skills.

We are committed to the dignity and individuality of each child. We value a prayerful atmosphere centered on OUR GOOD GOD.

The staff addresses the individual needs of each student. We strive to build a strong partnership with parents in the education of their children.

We believe students need to learn to recognize the needs of their brothers and sisters and of the world community. We give service to our community at home and around the world.

Morning Arrival

School begins promptly at 7:30 a.m. Students may enter the building starting at 7:00 a.m. (Calhoun St. door). Any child arriving after the 7:30 bell is late and must report to the office for a tardy slip before going to homeroom. Students arriving 2 hours late will be considered absent for ½ day.

Dismissal

School dismisses at 2:30 p.m. Students walking home follow safety procedures crossing the streets at the "crosswalk." Parents picking students up may wait in cars or meet their child outside the Scioto St. door.

Students may not remain in the building after school unless they are involved in one of the approved programs

Attendance and Illness

Regular attendance is necessary for a successful school experience. Absentee and tardy students miss valuable class instruction, organization and continuity of work.

Transportation

Bus transportation is provided for those eligible by the Cincinnati Public Schools. For further information related to student transportation, call the Pupil Transportation Office at 363-0330.

Early Dismissal

If it is necessary for a child to leave school early, parents are requested to send a note to the homeroom teacher, stating the reason for an early dismissal.

Parents who need to pick up a child due to illness or for other serious reasons must come to the school office and sign their child out.

Communications

Consistent and continuous parent-school dialog must occur to more fully realize goals for each student.

The Friday letter (The Corryville Courier) is sent home each Friday with students. The letter reports school events, calendar reminders and menu for the upcoming week.

Each Friday children in grades 2-8 will bring home the Merit/Demerit summary and notification of any detention to be served.

Parents are welcome to visit their child's classroom. Parents and visitors must stop in the school office to clear the visit with the principal and to obtain a visitor's badge.

Parents should feel free to contact individual teachers by phone (after 2:45 dismissal time) or by note to schedule an appointment.

Discipline

Discipline is fundamental in Catholic education. Parents must assist the teachers in guiding the children in the acceptance of responsibility. It is important to teach the child early and consistently to accept the consequences of his/her actions.

Every teacher has the authority and responsibility to apply appropriate disciplinary measures to a student violating any of the school's regulations or policies.

Corryville has a demerit system. This helps both parents, guardians and students to be more aware of expected student conduct and the consequences of violations of the code of conduct. Demerits provide for a fair and consistent school discipline policy. This system provides for weekly communication between school and home. After accumulating 5 demerits students must stay after school on a given day until 4:00 p.m. to serve detention.

School Closing - Weather and Emergency
